ALSPA P320 System Context
The historical ALSTOM Power ALSPA P320 platform was designed as a distributed power-plant control system.
The original system documentation identifies applications including:
Hydroelectric plants
Thermal power plants
Gas turbine plants
Combined-cycle plants
Diesel plants
Coal- and oil-fired plants
Nuclear plants
EHV / HV / MV substations and industrial processes requiring high availability.
Within this architecture, dedicated interface modules handle digital, analog, RTD, thermocouple and other process signals.
Product Overview
The Alstom LD106 is an I/O module designation found within the ALSPA/CE3000 control-system ecosystem. Historical ALSTOM Power P320 system documentation identifies an LD106 configuration as an 8-channel low-level/thermocouple input module, accepting thermocouple types J, K, T, R, S, E, B and N over a documented low-level input range of -10 mV to +100 mV. However, later GE ControlST documentation for the ALSPA DCS Retrofit identifies LD106 as a 16 static digital input board.

Industrial Applications
For the historical 8-channel low-level LD106 configuration, the appropriate use case is process temperature and low-level voltage acquisition. Thermocouples installed on industrial equipment generate low-level electrical signals that can be acquired through the module for monitoring and control.
Within the broader ALSPA P320 architecture, this type of measurement can be relevant to power-generation process monitoring, turbine auxiliary systems, boilers, thermal processes and other plant equipment requiring temperature acquisition.
For the 16-channel static digital-input LD106 documented by GE, the application is different: it handles discrete/static field states in an ALSPA DCS Retrofit configuration through the CE3000 Gateway.
