Construction, Interfaces, and Safety Features
Construction
This is a 24701 series probe housing assembly constructed with a 303 stainless steel body and a 304 stainless steel sleeve. It is supplied without a standoff adapter (Option C = 00) and includes a 3.8‑inch probe penetration sleeve (Option D = 038). The housing is designed to mount a 3300 XL 8 mm probe with approval option (Option A = 28) and comes with a 0.5‑meter (20‑inch) probe cable (Option B = 05). The assembly weighs approximately 1.8 kg (4.1 lb) without fittings. The dome cover screws into the housing body, and O‑rings provide sealing at critical interfaces.
Interfaces
The housing features a 3/4‑14 NPT mounting thread (Option F = 02) for secure attachment to the machine casing. The fitting configuration (Option E = 04) provides one 3/4‑14 NPT plug only, sealing the conduit entry. The assembly supports reverse‑mount proximity probes and allows external access to the probe and extension cable for gap adjustment and probe replacement without machine disassembly. The probe cable length of 0.5 meters is suited for installations where the Proximitor® Sensor is mounted in close proximity.
Safety Features
This housing is CSA certified as explosion‑proof for hazardous areas, rated for Class I, Divisions 1 and 2, Groups C and D, as well as Class II, Divisions 1 and 2, Groups E, F, and G. It is a CSA Type 4 enclosure and fully complies with the API 670 Standard for externally mounted proximity probe housings. When installed with appropriate intrinsically safe barriers, the housing supports intrinsically safe (I.S.) applications in explosive atmospheres. The 303/304 stainless steel construction provides corrosion resistance in harsh industrial environments. Sleeve penetration lengths greater than 12 inches would require additional support; however, this 3.8‑inch configuration remains well below that threshold, eliminating resonance concerns.
