This 31000 series housing is a standalone mechanical enclosure (supplied without probe or cable). Its body is molded from glass‑reinforced polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) containing conductive fibers, delivering excellent corrosion resistance and structural rigidity. The sleeve and retaining chain are AISI 304 stainless steel, while the outer sleeve and exterior screws are AISI 303 stainless steel. A Neoprene O‑ring seals the interface between the sleeve and the housing. The assembly weighs approximately 1.2 kg (2.6 lb) and is rated Type 4X (CSA certified) and IP66 (verified), providing robust protection against water, dust, and corrosive agents.
Interfaces
The housing is configured with a 1.5‑inch standoff adapter (C=15) and a 5.0‑inch probe penetration sleeve (D=050), giving a total insertion depth of 6.5 inches – suitable for medium‑thick casings. The mounting thread is 3/4‑14 NPT (F=02), and the fitting option (E=02) supplies two 3/4‑14 NPT conduit fittings and one plug, allowing dual cable entry or redundant conduit connections. All four side holes in the housing base accept sleeve or conduit fittings, and unused ports can be sealed with supplied plugs. The assembly is designed for field installation of user‑supplied 3300 XL 8 mm, NSv, or 11 mm probes, with external access for gap adjustment and probe replacement without machine disassembly.
Safety Features
Though not explosion‑proof, the housing is certified for intrinsically safe (I.S.) applications when paired with approved transducer systems and appropriate I.S. barriers. It meets CENELEC EN50014 requirements for electrostatic dissipation of plastic materials in hazardous areas. Impact strength is verified by BASEEFA (4 J at ‑39°C and +115°C) and CSA (7 J at ambient temperature). The housing supports a static load of 912 N (205 lb) without failure. Full compliance with API 670 ensures mechanical configuration and environmental sealing meet stringent industry standards for externally mounted proximity probe housings. Retaining nut torque is specified at 29.4 N·m (260 in·lb) for secure installation.
