Theory of Operation
This variant delivers the shallowest penetration among the series, with a 1.5‑in standoff and 2.3‑in sleeve giving only 3.8‑in total insertion – specifically designed for thin‑walled machine casings or retrofits with tight internal clearances where longer probes would risk interfering with rotating components. The shortened probe extension also reduces side‑view and rear‑view effects from nearby metal surfaces, improving signal fidelity. It shares the same 3/4‑14 NPT mounting thread, single conduit fitting, and PPS/stainless steel construction as other 31000 housings. The assembly is non‑explosion‑proof but offers Type 4X/IP66 environmental sealing. Field‑installed probes can be gapped and replaced externally without disassembling the machine. The 3.8‑in depth remains far below the 305 mm resonance threshold, ensuring stable operation without sleeve supports. Fully API 670 compliant.
