Measurement Performance
How the System Works
The complete 3300 XL 8 mm Proximity Transducer System consists of:
3300 XL 8 mm Probe → 3300 XL Extension Cable → 3300 XL Proximitor Sensor
The system produces an output voltage directly proportional to the distance between the probe tip and the observed conductive surface.
It can therefore measure:
Static values — position
Dynamic values — vibration
The probe is one component of this complete measurement chain and should be selected together with the appropriate system components.
Use Scenarios
Radial Vibration Measurement
Bently Nevada identifies vibration measurement on fluid-film bearing machines as a primary application of the 3300 XL 8 mm system.
The probe detects dynamic changes in the gap between its tip and the rotating shaft surface.
Shaft Position Measurement
The system can measure static displacement, allowing shaft position relative to the installed probe to be monitored.
Keyphasor Reference Measurement
The 3300 XL 8 mm system is also specified for Keyphasor reference applications.
This allows the proximity transducer system to participate in machinery monitoring arrangements requiring a rotational reference signal.
Speed Measurement
Bently Nevada identifies speed measurement as another primary application.
For tachometer and overspeed applications, the manufacturer provides separate application guidance covering the use of proximity transducer systems.
Fluid-Film Bearing Machinery
The primary machinery application identified in the official datasheet is equipment using fluid-film bearings.
The non-contacting measurement principle allows shaft movement to be measured without physical contact between the probe tip and rotating shaft.
