Theory of Operation
This identical housing platform shares the same aluminum body, 304 stainless steel sleeve, and 3300 XL 8 mm probe with connector protector and certifications. The key difference lies in the probe penetration option (DDD=015, i.e., 1.5 inches), which is significantly shorter – intended for machines with thin casings or where the target surface is close to the mounting boss. No standoff adapter is used, and the 0.5 m probe cable, single NPT plug, and 3/4‑14 NPT mounting thread remain unchanged. The reduced insertion depth minimizes mechanical interference with internal components while still achieving the recommended 1.27 mm (50 mil) nominal gap after proper adjustment. The housing’s dome cover and O‑rings create a Type 4 enclosure that resists water and dust ingress. In operation, the probe’s high‑frequency oscillator responds to the gap change; the output voltage (‑1 to ‑17 Vdc over the 2 mm linear range) tracks both static shaft position and dynamic vibration. The shorter sleeve reduces the risk of resonance from unsupported length, and the aluminium construction simplifies handling. This configuration is particularly effective in tight retrofit applications where space is constrained, while still delivering API 670‑compliant performance and full interchangeability with other XL 8 mm components.
